Overview

Bijrani Tourist Zone is a very popular area of the spectacular Corbett Tiger Reserve. This zone is enriched with a huge number of floral and faunal species. Bijrani gives a tough competition to Dhikala zone while the tourist's preferences are concerned. The zone is known for its wonderful landscape and is very calm and quite place. The beauty of this place is appreciated by all the visitors. This is one of the most tiger rich areas of the park.Bijrani consists of a mixed topography with dense Sal forests combined with grasslands. The entry to this zone is through Aamdanda Gate.
The area in and around Bijrani once formed part of a shooting block. During the British period it was much famed for the quality of game hunting that it offered to shikaris. In comparison to Dhikala, the terrain at Bijrani is drier and also has more diverse vegetation.
Bijrani is undoubtedly a priority for tourists and wildlife adventurers as it offers unique topography. The more you explore Bijrani , the more unexplored it seems, and this goes on and on as you move into the interiors of the Corbett national park. The rippling streams with Lantana bushes along the ridges, in fact, lend a truly natural and adventurous feel. For the staunch wildlife lovers, it would indeed be great idea to go across the stream as it can easily bring a Royal Bengal tiger to their sight, if not anything else. Many a times, the Lantana bushes will give you amazing sights of the tigers. The aroma of the Mahua flowers that add to the flora of the Bijrani trail are enticing for the Sloth bears. You can get a perfect view of the Sloth bears crossing your jeep and nothing can be as exciting as such a scene. Sloth bears generally come out to enjoy the sweet nectar of the Mahua flowers and to see them sucking the nectar is indeed an engaging activity.

Accommodation

With in Bijrani Zone, Forest rest houses are located in Bijrani and Malani. The rest house at Bijrani has six rooms (Four with double beds and two with single bed) and dormitory consisting of four beds. The compound has its own restaurant and canteen. Elephant rides into the jungle are available from here. The region is frequented by wild animals and birds unperturbed by the human interventions. The chances of spotting a tiger, Sloth bear and herd of elephants are quite high in this part of the park. The rest house in Malani has two rooms (Double bed) and is very popular among bird watchers and tourist seeking a peaceful place. The picturesque beauty of Bijrani is magnificent. It is endowed with wide grass lands, thick forests and huge water drains and inspiring count of flora and fauna.

Safari In Bijrani

Bijrani safari zone is highly endowed with rich diversity of flora and fauna. Bijrani zone, situated at a suitable distance from Ramnagar is the most preferred zone for Wildlife enthusiasts visiting the park for day visit. It gives its visitors a wonderful experience of the beautiful forests.

Food & Other Services

The compound has its own restaurant and canteen, where buffet meals are served with a variety of good quality food at affordable price.

Night Stay

BIJRANI(FRH) Malani Forest Rest House was built in 1930's and is located at the edge of the core zone of the Corbett National Park approximately12km northwest of Bijrani. From Bijrani driving through the Machaan chaur, visitors take the old forest track to Mailani and enjoy the sight of deer grazing in the grassland, a Tusker peeling the bark of trees or an occasional encounter witha bear or Leopard. This small FRH named after the Malani sot (stream) offers one of the most picturesque surroundings and a quiet ambience. This is one of the best site for a peaceful stay and enjoying bird watching.

Bijrani Safari Zone

Bijrani safari zone of Corbett national park is one another famous tourist destination of Corbett Park. This zone is located at a few kilometres distance from Ramnagar and is known for having a good number of resorts at Corbett National Park. Bijrani Safari zone shows rich population of tigers and offers a wonderful sighting to its visitors. Amdanda gate is the entrance to this zone and it consists of buffer, tourism and core areas. Safari can be experienced in morning or in the evening, but only out of core areas. On a particular path, limited numbers of vehicles are allowed at a time so that the habitat of wildlife can never get disturbed. If you wish you can enjoy Jeep safari for the full day to catch greater number of wildlife of Corbett Park. Bijrani and malani forest rest house are two wonderful loading options in the Bijrani zone, where you can experience a comfortable stay. Visiting hours for morning and evening slots are as follows.

Chaurs (Grass Lands)

The chaurs ( Grass land) near Bijrani namely Machaan Chaur, Badhai Chaur, Ringora Chaur etc. adds to the attraction of forests.

Flora & Fauna

The forest area of Bijrani is purely serene and perfect for the tranquil atmosphere. It is seen that the forest vegetation is mainly Sal along with wide grasslands known as Chaur. The topography at Bijrani is a bit drier and has diverse character. Several types of Deer and antilopes namely Chital (Axis axis), Hog Deer or Para (Axis pornicus), Sambar (Cervus Unicolor), Kakkar (Muntiacus Muntjak) etc are seen here.
A great place to spot tigers and wild elephants, this is also a preferred destination of Birdwatchers. The chances of spotting sloth bear are high in these forests. They are attracted by both termites and the sweet nectar of Mahua flowers. The bears have been recorded in intoxicated state when the Mahua ferments in their digestive system.

How to Reach

The entry to Bijrani forest rest house is through the Aamdanda gate. Aamdanda gate is situated about 2 km from the nearest town named Ram Nagar and the forest house is around 7 km from the entry gate. You have to show the entry permit to the forest guards at the gate in order to enter into the restricted park. You can only use the authorized vehicles to ride inside the park, walking or personal vehicle is not allowed. There is buffer area of around 5 km then comes the core area of the Bijrani ecotourism zone. The spectacular view of the rich lush wild nature will be in front of your eyes as soon as your vehicle enters from the gate. So, satiate your love for the wild life at this place and spend one or two days in the forest house to get the adventurous feel of being a part of the forest.

Activities

The magnificent picturesque landscape of the Bijrani Zone can easily be explored from here. By using the facility of jeep safari, you can take a ride deep into the jungle observing animals and hoping to have a sight of a roaming tiger. If you want you can roam whole day in a jeep safari catching the glimpse of wildlife in large and capturing them with your camera. Along with the jeep ride, the elephant ride is also available to roam into the jungle but not too deep inside the forest.

Temperature & Weather

Between November to March weather will be cold in Morning and evening while pleasant in afternoon.
From April till 15th June weather will be pleasant in Morning and evening while afternoon becomes hot. In summers during afternoons people prefer to go for safaris rather staying at forest rest house.

Light in rooms

There is no 24 hours electricity facility at Bijrani forest rest house although in evening for some time electricity is supplied by forest department by solar inverter.
Forest department offers solar powered LED lamps in all rooms and for hot water , solar water heating facility is given at a common point near rooms.

Safety

This accommodation facility is surrounded by solar power fencing to keep away animals from forest rest house. Forest department has restricted walking in forest rest house compound only , outside this compound walking is not allowed.
All accommodation facility in Bijrani forest rest house is masonry (pakka accommodation). There is no tent or mud cottage.
